Hi, my name is Henry, and I'm an 11th-grade student at Drew High School. My interests include gaming, video game creation, and moding. I also dabble in writing short stories and read comic books in my free time. This website was made in pure HTML without any help from sites such as Google sites. With some help from my dad, my site was typed out in visual studio with HTML and CSS.
I am an experienced programmer in Java and use my skills to design video games. I took a UCSC Game Design course over the summer. I’ve always been a creative and committed person. I have ADHD and Dyslexia. I’ve known about it since 2nd grade. It was tough at first, but I’ve gotten used to things. As a kid, I’ve had a lot of ideas. Mainly for video games. My dream is to go and make a game of my own on a bigger scale than my existing projects, one that I could maybe make and living from. I plan to spend my free time creating new, cool demo video games and putting them on this site.
Here are some of my recent activities:
Here is a list of clubs that I have been a part of
twine project for UCSC class
This is my scratch profile, it's where I've made lots of games. However I have stopped working on Scratch and now exploring different game engines. By the way, if you click the screen below while playing my recreation of the retro game, Duck Hunt, (which I made in 8th grade) you can shoot the ducks. If you wish, you can go to my proflie and click the project one my page to see inside and look at all of the blocks of code that went into this. Note that this was not a remix of any other persons project.
https://scratch.mit.edu/users/henrydean2014/Skyblock is a game I made where the player must survive on one island against four other teams. I made each of the islands fair and balanced with each other island having different resources (i.e. Diamonds, Redstone, Villagers) to incentivize trading amongst each of the islands.
Here is some other creations that I built:
I have worked on many Python projects for my computer science class using Repl
Mario Party (text adventure game)
Hangman (text-based guessing game)
Here is a game I built using PICO-8 with LUA coding languages. In the online summer class I took to make this, I saw a lot of people making platformers staring a robot in a grassy field. In my game, I turned that idea on its head and made a grassy creature platform across a robotic environment. Of course, the game only has one section but I plan on adding some more in the future.
This was a project I made in my Programming class, a turn-based combat game simulator. The game randomly chooses which randomon to use in the battle. This was obviously inspired by the classic video game, Pokemon. You have weak moves and strong moves. You do more damage depending on your type and your opponents type. I used a 2d array to make the type-chart. The enemy AI selects a random move.
This text adventure game was also a project I made in my Programming class. You have an inventory system and can move around the building. The goal is to have the tools to beat the boss fight at the top. I used an arraylist to make the inventory system. You can go in do diffent rooms, certain rooms required keys to unlock.
This was my first project I did in my Programming class. I used the Painter class in java (on Code.org) to make this aninmation. This is similar to Python turtle. I made methods to have the process of programming each move to be easier. For the end, I wanted to try something new and made a loop and filled in all empty parts of the mushroom red. The final product I am very proud of.
Big Nate: I've read every Big Nate graphic novel
Marvel Comics: Black Panther, Strange Academy, Guardians of the Galaxy, and many more.
Plants vs. Zombies
Minecraft
Super Smash brothers
Super Mario Games
Plants vs. Zombies 2 and Garden Warfare 1 and 2
Rivals of Aether
Video game ideas for existing video games to hopefully use those ideas in the future
I assisted students with their technology when they needed help.
We also entertained the students during lunch; playing fun games.
I responsibly worked on my Data Entry job which was analyzing surveys that were filled out after a meeting to hear people's complaints and constructive criticism.
It was a eye opening experience to what job life looks like.
The online class taught how to use AI tools in fun and creative ways.
I made a program that could recognize if a persons hand was shaped like a rock, paper or a pair scissors for the game Rock Paper Scissors using my computers camera.
Java
I worked on Java projects during my Programming class that used a language model to respond to keyword and a turn-based combat game simulator
Lua
I used Lua to make my 8-bit platformer (see above)
Python
This was the first language I learned and I made a single player Mario Party inspired game with mini-games and coins
